President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has assigned Minister for Home Affairs Tito Karnavian as Acting Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs to replace Mahfud Md, who resigned from the position.
President Jokowi stated that the assignment of Tito is based on, among others, his track record of experience.
“Tito has an experience at the National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT). He was once Chief of Indonesian Police, and he assumes the position of Minister for Home Affairs. I think there will be no problem for him to take up the position of Acting Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs,” President Jokowi said in his press statement at Bale Rame Building, Bandung regency, West Java province, Saturday (02/03).
Previously, President Jokowi has signed Presidential Decree Number 20/P of 2024 on the honorable discharge of Mahfud Md as Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs and the assignment of Tito Karnavian as Acting Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs.
The decree was signed in Jakarta on Friday (02/02).
President Jokowi also explained that he has not made any decision yet on the definite replacement for the position of Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs. He also stressed that most importantly, the organization can run well.
“We’ll keep monitoring and most importantly, organization can run well,’ he added.
The President also mentioned that the definite Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs will be appointed as soon as possible and that the position will be assigned to a non-political party figure.
“Immediately. From non-political party,” he concluded. (Bureau of Press, Media, and Information of Presidential Secretariat/AIT)(AW/EP)
